PBA coming to KBXtreme

PBA coming to KBXtreme

KBXtreme will host the PBA West/Northwest Kona Open Regional Bowling tournament Sunday and Monday. The tournament will feature 40 touring professional bowlers from all over the country. Some of the top name professionals expected to attend include Scott Norton, Missy Parkin and Josh Blanchard.

In addition to the tournament, amateurs will be able to bowl with the professional bowlers in a Pro-Am competition on Sunday, and KBXtreme is also hosting a free event for high school bowlers at 10 a.m. Sunday.

Hawaii Cycling Club Opolu Airport Training Time Trial

The Hawaii Cycling Club is offering training for the IRONMAN 70.3-Hawaii.

The annual Upolu Airport Training Time Trial takes place May 9 with three courses (all on the IRONMAN 70.3-Hawaii bicycle course): 24.7 miles, 15.5 miles and six miles.

The event is free to annual HCC members. A one day membership is $10.

The three courses will start at 8 a.m. at three different locations but all will end at the Upolu Airport two-mile sign on Hwy. 270.

The 24.7-mile course will start opposite the finish line, head south on Hwy 270 for 12.35 miles, make a U-turn between the seven and eight mile-markers and return north on Hwy. 270. For safety there will be traffic control police officers and signage at the U-turn.

The 15.5 mile course is the traditional course, starting at the north end of Maluokalani St. in Kawaihae on Hwy. 270 and ending at the Upolu Airport two-mile sign.

The six-mile course will start at the Lapakahi Park turnoff and end at the Upolu Airport two-mile sign.

The talk story aid station will be at the finish line.

One training option is to ride from either Hapuna Beach or the Mauna Lani to Malukona St. Compete in the 15.5 mile training time trial and ride back to Hapuna Beach or Mauna Lani.

Tennis camp at the Hilton

Pa Le’a Le’a Tennis at the Hilton Waikoloa is offering a junior tennis/sports camp in two week intervals for the months of June and July.

The camps will be held on the Hilton’s newly resurfaced six-court tennis facility.

Camps will run all day, from 8:30 a.m. to 2:30 pm.

Hilo Triathlon registration

Early registration is open for the 2nd Annual Hilo Triathlon.

Returning to James Kealoha Beach Park on July 12, the Olympic-distance race is limited to 500 participants.

Now through April 30 the entry fee is only $150 for individuals and $75 for relay team members; after May 1 the fee goes up to $200 and $100, respectively. Registration closes midnight on July 2.

Athletes from as far away as Australia participated in last year’s inaugural event, which again features a 1.5km swim, 40km bike ride, and a 10km run.

Kamehameha Schools West Hawaii Golf Outing

The Kamehameha Schools West Hawaii Golf Outing will be held May 3, with a shotgun start at 7:30 a.m. at Big Island Country Club.

Entry fee is $100 per person. Format is a two-person scramble. This annual fundraising event directly benefits outstanding boarding students at the Kamehameha-Kapalama campus with scholarships for their post-high school education.

Keaau High School is accepting applications for boys basketball head coach and cheerleading head coach.

All interested applicants may pickup an application at our main office between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday, excluding holidays. Applicant must meet minimum standards and expectations, as well as passing a background check to be considered for the position. Applicant must also be willing to obtain mandatory certifications as necessary. Guest: Dick Mudry, a long time golf writer, including 10 years as the copywriter for the Augusta National Masters Annual, talks about the World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine, Florida and the career of his friend David Graham. Graham, will be one of the inductees of the 2015 World Golf Hall of Fame Class. The ceremony takes place at St. Andrews in July and also includes Mark O’Meara, Laura Davies, and Famed architect A.W. Tillinghast.

Dick shares the experience of touring the World Golf Hall of Fame in St. Augustine with David, who won the 1979 PGA Championship and 1981 US Open.
